Light the Streets On Fire – Fueling the Coup

United States, as always, is the main driver of the destabilization in Latin America. In addition to the military aspect, the U.S. also uses its “financial aid” as another of its weapons of intervention. The U.S. provides funding, preparation, protection and advocacy to groups that represent U.S. interest in Latin America. There are many agencies that are involved, some of them are USAID (United States Agency for International Development), NED (National Endowment for Democracy), the IRI (International Republican Institute), the NDI (National Democratic Institute), AEI (Albert Einstein Institute) Freedom House, among others. The goal is to control the so called Non-Governmental Organizations since these groups are perceived as benevolent organizations.

We must bear in mind that Washington’s foreign policy is shared among democrats and republicans alike and both parties are behind the interference and destabilization of the region. The figure of NGOs has been captured by the agencies of the U.S. and their intelligence services. In this way, these NGOS protect only American interests. Many say that the role of NED is to operate as a Trojan horse for the CIA. These foundations filter financing and strategic advice to political parties and organizations such as “social” as youth groups.

A few years ago, the director of the USAID stated that NGOS were a vital arm of Washington’s foreign policy. In 2009, the USAID joined as part of the counterinsurgency strategy of U.S. , next to the Pentagon and the State Department. In this way, the Pentagon is in charge of military matters, the State Department of diplomacy and the USAID of the “civil society.”

The NED and the IRI were created in 1983, but this does not mean that the U.S. was not interfering prior to 1983, but that simply that the U.S. made it public in that year. In theory, NED, IRI and other organizations have “noble” purpose of helping groups that defend and promote “democracy”, but they have been behind each military coup. The flow of money from the USAID, NED and other agencies are trying to promote and nurture conflict. This creates an atmosphere of anxiety that immediately is presented to a global audience, in a way that if the U.S. intervenes militarily, that attack would be seen as justifiable.

These techniques are very well orchestrated as Srdja Popovic of the OTPOR and Jim Sharp of the Albert Einstein Institute have developed. This are marketing and psychological operations at the best style of the OTPOR previously used in countries such as Serbia, Ukraine, Georgia and Kyrgyzstan. The basic strategy is very simple, create a problem, stiffened with the press and then, provide the solution. This is what is known as 4th generation war or soft coup. The objective is to create a negative perception of the government to be overthrown, which is not so difficult – tolerance is portrayed as weakness, and the leadership as authoritarianism and dictatorship [TeleSur Jan 21-2015].

The strategy is to undermine the pillars of power and neutralize the security forces. To give an example of the strategy used with respect to the security forces, according to Colonel Robert Helvey of the Albert Einstein Institute, the objective is not to destroy the armed forces and the police, but convince them to go against the government. This strategy is also addressed to the rest of public officials and the general public, through a presence on the street that gives the impression of a out of control social outbreak. A key Strategy is using the youth and women in front of the cameras to portray an image of victims of an oppressive regime. To give a few examples of this kind of groups we have the Ladies in White, Yasunidos, SÚMATE among many others. Also we have personalities like Yohani Sánchez, Loopoldo Lopez, Maria Corina Machado among many others, all of them are playing a clear agenda to destabilize their countries in name of “democracy” in cordination with the U.S. [RT Feb 23-2015].
